The Corporate Run Series attracts more than 1,100 South Florida Companies and incorporates a special competition to award the overall men’s, women’s and co-ed teams in 18 different industries categories. The run is open to employees of businesses, corporations, government agencies, financial institutions, and non-profits. Known as “South Florida’s Largest Office Party”, everyone is encouraged to join their company team to walk or run as a group. Beginners can “ease into exercise” with friends, gain inspiration and motivation to continue walking and running to improve overall health, while competitive runners have the opportunity to shine among their co-workers and lead their corporate team to victory. Often this is the first step towards greater health and wellness among South Florida employees and their companies.

OUR TRAINING METHODS

We take the large goal of completing a 5K or 3.1 miles and divide it into small, manageable run and walk segments.

Early in the program, the goal may be to run one minute and then walk one minute for a total of 10 minutes. We gradually increase the time until you’re able to run/walk for 40 to 45 minutes.

We hope you supplement our program with some exercising on your own, or with your new training partners throughout the rest of the week (another two days a week for maximum results). By run/walking for 30-45 minutes, 3- 4 days a week you will soon feel and see the positive results of a fitness-conscious lifestyle. By consistently following our Fitness Program, you benefit from increased cardiovascular fitness, muscle tone, weight control, and improved attitude/mood.

Also, the camaraderie developed with those who care about their own health and fitness will encourage you stay motivated and eager for every run! Many of our “graduates” of Fitness 101 have continued to run and many are now successful veterans of half marathons, marathons and triathlon races. They will be there to encourage and demonstrate the ease to which you can achieve the same!

There is no pressure or time goal that you have to fulfill – we are here to work out and get fit together!

DETAILS

Participants will meet at FootWorks in South Miami (5724 Sunset Drive – across from Barnes & Noble at Sunset Place) at 6:15pm on Monday and Wednesday nights during the 7 week program. Half & Full Marathon Training

by Jonathan Malone | January 13, 2015 10:30 pm

TFW Training Guide

A Training Program For Everyone

Join the premier half and full marathon training program in South Florida! Our training programs target the everyday person who wants to complete a half or full marathon or improve over a previous performance. With TeamFootWorks, you CAN DO IT!!

Girls Finish

Train With Us

The Magical 1-Minute Walk Break

The secret ingredient is intervals. With interval training, the miles are divided into short manageable segments where you’ll run for just 2 to 5 minutes. After each segment, a 1 minute walk break awaits! This break allows you to recover, catch your breath, hydrate, and regroup while you prepare for the next segment. With interval training, you’re not running 13.1 miles but rather for just the next segment.

Train Just 3 Days

Our programs consist of 3 training days and one optional day. The Saturday long run or walk is the key to your success. Pace groups are led by 2-3 veteran runners. You will be amazed how quickly the time and miles melt away running or walking with your training team. The energy is contagious and the friendships you develop will be well worth the early wake up calls!!

Choose Your Pace, You Can Walk Too

Each of our training programs start with a brief orientation and a 30 minute run/walk. We offer several different pace groups for people of every ability and speed. Our Half Programs even include a group for WALKERS! We aim to finish our Saturday long runs/walks by 8:00am giving you the rest of the day to relish in your accomplishment with your family.

The Long Run

Long runs are essential in any endurance training program. The long runs or walks will be done on Saturdays with your training team. You will be amazed how quickly the time and miles melt away running or walking with your training team. The energy is contagious and the friendships you develop will be well worth the early wake up calls!! Most of the long runs will start from the FootWorks Running store in South Miami, 5724 Sunset Dr.

Team FootWorks at UPS5K 2018

Weekly Runs

While the long runs and walks develop your ability to go the distance, it is the weekly running and cross-training that will take you to another level of health and fitness. During the week you are responsible for two short runs or walks of no more than 60 minutes. FootWorks South Miami hosts our weekly fun runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm to keep your training on schedule.

Target Races

The Spring Half Marathon training program prepares participants for a destination race. In 2017, the team traveled to Central Florida to participate in the Echo Half Marathon. Some members took on the DAYLIGHT TO TWILIGHT CHALLENGE, running the Echo Half in the morning and the South Miami Hospital Twilight 5K in the evening. Unfortunately the Echo Half race is no longer around leaving us to find another event. In the meantime, we’ll setup and complete the TFW Faux Half right here in Miami. Entry to the Faux Half will be included in the training program. The Spring Program begins in February.

The Summer Half Training Program trains participants for the October Miami Beach Halloween Half Marathon[1]. This event marries Halloween, costume themes, and a running event! Each year features a different traditional Halloween character and unique finisher medal. Participants can run in costume and compete in the several categories like fastest superhero, fastest monster, et al. TeamFootWorks is always the best dressed, picking a theme for our costumes like Three Ring Circus, Mad Tea Party, and Super Heroes. The Summer Program begins in July.

Our Fall Training program is our largest with over 6oo participants aiming to complete the January Miami Half or Full Marathon[2]. Run your hometown and get a unique Spinning Palm Medal when you cross the finish line. Then come to the TeamFootWorks Hospitality Village at Bayfront Park to enjoy massages, mimosas, omelettes, and more! Participants training for the Miami Full Marathon will start in August while those training for the Miami Half Marathon starts in October.

Hansgiving Fun Run

by Jonathan Malone | November 1, 2016 6:31 pm

ABOUT THE HANSGIVING FUN RUN!
Hans and Laurie Huseby have spearheaded the growth of the local running scene in Miami since 1973. Through FootWorks, their efforts have led to initiatives such as assisting in the founding of the Miami Runners Club, producing races such as the Corporate Run series, and organizing Training Programs for marathons, half-marathons, and 5Ks.

Sadly, Hans passed away on Thanksgiving weekend in 2014. The following year, about 20 of us gathered on Thanksgiving morning to run in his honor. Since then, many more have joined us on SW 57th Court, also known as Hans Huseby Run, to help continue this tradition.

There is no fee to join the Fun Run. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization, we only ask for a $10 donation to help support our running programs and events which spread fitness education and involve the community in physical activity.

RUN DETAILS
The 3.8 mile run/walk is an untimed Fun Run. There are no bibs or awards.

The run will begins at 7:00am on Hans Huseby Run (57th Ct. on Sunset Dr. on the west side of FootWorks). Parking is free until 9:00am.

Laurie will share some words with everyone before the run and we will all take a group photo in front of the Hans Huseby Run sign. Wear your TeamFootWorks shirt!

Mimosas will be served after the run (while supplies last).

RUN SCHEDULE
6:30am: Meet at FootWorks, 5724 Sunset Dr. There’s free curbside parking until 9am.

Hansgiving Fun Run Honors FootWorks Founder

by Jonathan Malone | November 5, 2020 7:35 pm

Hans and Laurie Huseby are the couple responsible for opening FootWorks in 1976, which is today Miami’s unofficial running headquarters. Today, their efforts have led to initiatives such as assisting in the founding of the Miami Runners Club to overseeing major events like the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Series.

Sadly, Hans passed away on Thanksgiving weekend in 2014. The following year, we ran on Thanksgiving in his honor and it’s a tradition we intend to continue through the Hansgiving Fun Run. What started as an event with just twenty participants is today a much larger one where hundreds have participated.

The Hansgiving Fun Run is a 3.8-mile run or walk beginning on Hans Huseby Run. This is SW 57 Court on Sunset Drive on the west side of FootWorks. There is no fee to participate but we are limiting participation to observe social distancing measures. Hence, we are asking that anyone interested RSVP[1].

If you’re interested in participating in Hansgiving Fun Run, we’re proud to announce the run is happening again this year on November 26, 2020, at 7:00 AM! Please make sure to wear a face covering before and after you run or walk.

Besides this run, remember that we’re still running the Festiv 5K virtual runs, including the upcoming Happy Thanksgiving Virtual 5K.

Last Few Days to Register for the Happy Thanksgiving Virtual 5K

by Jonathan Malone | November 17, 2020 6:55 pm

Have you signed up for the Festiv Virtual 5K yet? You only have a few more days to register for the Thanksgiving-themed run, which is the second of the four virtual runs we began earlier this year.

Our first run the Halloween 5K was a huge success! We have some fun pictures we shared earlier this month on the TeamFootWorks Facebook[1] page showing off some of the creative masks people wore as they socially distanced and completed their times.

Speaking of times, remember that with a virtual 5K, it’s all about what you want to do. You won’t be running alongside a ton of people and you don’t necessarily have to leave your home if you don’t want to. If you have access to a treadmill, for example, you can run the distance safely in your home. On the other hand, you’re also free to head to a local park or any open area to complete your run there. As with the Halloween 5K and the upcoming Happy Holidays and Happy New Year Year 5K, you simply upload your results once you’re done.

Remember that you’ll also receive a medal plus a super soft cotton tee to remember your accomplishment. We hope that you have a chance to participate in one or all of the remaining virtual runs!

Festiv 5K: Last Chance to Buy Three and Get the Fourth Free

by Jonathan Malone | October 27, 2020 5:15 pm

Today is the last day to take advantage of the Festiv 5K buy three, get the fourth free promotion! This is your chance to collect four different medals and four different shirts while participating in a series of virtual 5K events that do the body and mind tremendous good!

The Festiv 5K Virtual Race series consists of four holiday-themed events each centered around the upcoming festive days, beginning with Halloween this Saturday followed by the Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays, and the Happy 2021 5K runs. As mentioned, registering for each race includes a different medal and shirt to show off your accomplishment!

As we’ve mentioned in previous blogs, virtual races allow you the flexibility of doing them on your own time and just about anywhere you like. If you own a treadmill or have a fitness center nearby, you’re free to run the distance there while listening to your favorite tunes and in the privacy of your home. Perhaps you’d prefer to get together a small group of friends and head over to the local park. You run where you like and then you simply upload the results, it’s that simple!

Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy what’s left of 2020 with these exciting events. Besides supporting the body and mind and doing something fun, you’ll also be supporting TeamFootWorks!
